Ceramic Braces
The latest evolution of the traditional orthadontal braces. Ceramic braces are ideal for straightening after tooth removal, or for other more complex cases where lots of movement is required.

Traditional braces have a fantastic track record, and there are some advantages to considering this type of brace.
For a long time, ceramic braces were the best type of braces for adults. They are an evolution of the traditional “train track” braces - the main difference being that they are all tooth coloured. Read on for more details.

Complex Tooth Movements
The main advantage of a ceramic brace, over an Invisalign style brace is in the way that the brace grips the tooth. The ceramic brace is glued to the tooth for the duration of the brace treatment. This forms a much more secure connection between the brace and the tooth, allowing what we call more complex movements on the tooth.
Now, for most adult situations, complex movements may not be needed, but in cases where it is better to remove teeth to have braces, then complex movements may be needed to close the space where the tooth is removed.
Other situations where a fixed brace might be better is when you are considering dental implants as part of your plan, and your natural tooth roots are in the way, in these cases, fixed braces are able to move the roots apart, so that you can have a dental implant to replace a missing tooth.
As you can see, the situations where fixed braces are recommended are quite niche.
Speed Of Treatment
Treatment with fixed braces is a little quicker than with clear aligners: from a matter of weeks for simple cases, to several months if your treatment is complex.
It's impossible to say exactly how long your treatment will take beforehand, though, as everyone is different and there are a lot of different factors at play.
Visibility Of Treatment
Ceramic braces are more visible than aligner braces, but from a few metres away they are not obvious.
There are some components of the brace that can pick up staining. Although we can change these components every time you come back in, you may want to avoid highly staining foods while undergoing treatment.
Treatment Costs
The cost varies with complexity, in a similar way to the aligner-style braces.
Treatment ranges from £3000 - £4000 for most cases, but in more complex cases, it can be more. We can provide a realistic estimate at your consultation.
0% finance is available for brace treatment, and most people like this as it allows them to budget their treatment.
